Why Are We So Interested in the Private Lives of Celebrities?
Do you ever wonder how it is that famous people’s sex scandals are constantly turning up all over the Net, and it appears as if they don’t seem to be conscious of it? Everybody loves a little celebrity gossip here and there. We all know it is more entertaining when scandals are not about us. But what is it about other folks’s lives that we find so important to keep up with? And why are scandals so entertaining? It can be many things.
Some things that interest us as humans when it comes to scandals can be prior experiences and relations. Sometimes, it could be a matter of being mesmerized by the lifestyles that celebrities lead. When we see famous ( and in numerous cases spoiled ) stars stumble over themselves because they see themselves as untouchable, we get a certain gratification in that. Additionally, for those famous people that we admire based mostly on their standing ( like public leaders ), we simply can’t believe that they might do something to jeopardize that public standing and the trust that comes with their position.
Nearly every week, popular people are exploited, or otherwise finish up in a scandal. What’s surprising is how a number of these people act so shocked to be caught in the act. It is like they didn’t think it would turn out that way. At some point, folks have to understand the actions they engage in can have a negative impact on them later on down the road - even after they believe the incident has been buried and forgotten about.
Take for instance, last year during the Presidential elections. Word was leaked that Sarah Palin’s child got pregnant in school. Many of us attacked Palin, since she is supposed to be sort of an idol, and yet her child is underage and not only having sex, but got pregnant before getting wed.
If that was not enough, soon afterwards the beginning of the campaign, word leaked out that Palin’s child was no longer with the daddy of her baby. That was such a widespread shock, because many of us thought they might be getting married. The press made it sound like a big sex scandal. But think about it for a moment : relations can begin and be really good. Then, out of nowhere, take a turn for the worse. That is something many of us can relate to, but since it is someone else’s life, it is more shocking and entertaining to the general public.
It is simply man’s nature to show interest in other people’s’s private life, so long as it is not us, and it does not affect our lives. We are entertained by those public figures who are glorified on the television, but who are then embarrassed in public at times for the stupid acts they do.
