“Rescue Me” has certainly courted a lot of controversy these past few weeks. Im still a fan of Denis Leary’s, despite the lack of judgement with the lastest storylines. Tonight, Lou (John Scurti) and Franco (Daniel Sunjata, seen in “The Devil Wears Prada”) have a close call at a fire, and Sean (Steven Pasquale) has a run-in with the law.

The year was 1973. “The Sting” and “The Exorcist” were raking in the dough at the box office, while “Kojak” took over the tube. VH1 takes a second look at the year in its latest installment of the “decade countdown show” — a new genre of TV that the former music-video network practically invented.

A new tradition in the land of “Last Comic Standing” is the Friar’s Club roast — where the remaining comedians are put to the proverbial test in front of several stand-up legends. Tonight, the group fires on all snarky cylinders in front of guest judges Gilbert Gottfriend (the true king of the D-List celebrities), Phyllis Diller and “Last Comic Standing: Battle of the Best” champion Alonzo Bodden. The lucky winner gets the chance to perform with funnyman Louie Anderson in Las Vegas. Later, a head-to-head challenge determines which Final Five contestants will move on — and which will be sent home.

Kathy Griffin has been in the news lately, due to the bombshell she supposedly dropped on CNN’s “Larry King Live” about the state of her marriage — and why she’s no longer with former husband Matt Moline. Unfortunately, those wacky North Koreans decided to launch some short-range missiles on the day Kathy’s interview with Larry was supposed to air. We may never find out if Moline was really stealing money from his wife. Scandalous! Tonight on “My Life on the D-List”), Kathy calls a dog trainer to help with her new puppy, and the Learning Annex in Los Angeles hires Kathy to teach a class about comedy.

Tonight’s special episode of “Primetime” presents the story of Charlie Stopford. A routine passport check reveals the hidden life of the American-born Stopford, who spent 20 years in England, married and had a family — all while using the identity of a child who died in 1963. Sounds like the basis for a movie, no?

(Check local listings) FOX Sports presents Major League Baseball’s 77th annual All-Star Game, live (and in Hi Def, for those with a TV set that supports it) from PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Penn. The Emmy Award-winning broadcast team of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver — who also have names that lend themselves to sportscasting –call the action, and Jeanne Zelasko and Kevin Kennedy offer pre-game coverage. Voting online for fan favorites was tallied right up until July 6; did your favorite Sultan of Swing make it into the game? FYI: I apologize that I know nothing about baseball other than the deliciousness of the Dodger Dogs at Chavez Ravine in Los Angeles.

Isn’t it nice to have Julie Chen back on your television twice a week? ‘Tis a pity she doesn’t host the Sunday-night clip show as well. The former “BB” contestants “lucky” enough to get chosen again for forced CBS confinement continue forming alliances and trying to figure out what behaviors might ultimately net them $500,000.
